Venezuela__ Delcy Rodríguez, Venezuela Foreign Minister, received in the Ecuadorian capital the presidency pro témpore of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR in Spanish) for a period of one year, amid two big challenges: the recovery of Ecuador and the political crisis in Brazil, Cubadebate publishes.

The Uruguayan chancellor, Rodolfo Nin Novoa, gave the position to Rodríguez in a meeting of the Council of Chancellors of the block held a few hours ago at the General Secretary of UNASUR headquarters, in the north of the Ecuadorian capital.

The encounter began with a minute of silence to honor the quake victims that razed a sector of the north of the Ecuadorian coast last Saturday and that has provoked until the moment 654 deads, 16 thousand 601 wounded, 58 missing persons and 25 thousand 640 housed in provisional places.

The chancellors of the block expressed their condolences to the Ecuadorians for the tragedy, although they also highlighted the population's great unit, as well as the international generous support received by Ecuador.

When picking up the temporary presidency of UNASUR, the Venezuelan chancellor condensed the feeling of his South American colleagues' anguish and pointed out the help received by Ecuador from the regional integration mechanism.

Her counterpart from Ecuador, Guillaume Long, intervened in the meeting with a moving recount of the tragedy lived by his country and highlighted the benefits of the integration mechanism in these terrible moments.

Long commented that most of the victims of the earthquake concentrate on towns of the coastal county of Manabí and in the south of Esmeralda province.

He explained that in populations like Pedernales and Jama, the destruction arrives to 85 percent of its infrastructures and housings.
