San José_ The National Front of Indigenous Peoples (Frenapi) and the National Committee of Support for Indigenous Autonomy today blamed the Costa Rican Government for the murder of Bribri leader Sergio Rojas, Prensa Latina reports.

Rojas was murdered last night by multiple bullets in his house in the Territorio de Salitre, one of the four Bribris indigenous territories of Costa Rica, in the canton of Buenos Aires, in the province of Puntarenas, says a press note, released by both groups , disclosed on social networks.

The document recalls that Rojas was a member of the Council of Authorities of the Defenders of the Mother Earth, of the People of Salitre and of the National Coordination of Frenapi.

In a previous text, the Frenapi reported that last night that those responsible for the murder of the indigenous leader apparently entered behind his house, located in Yery Territorio de Salitre.

It said that this Monday, Rojas was in Buenos Aires accompanying several bribris to the Prosecutor's Office to denounce the usurpation of lands by non-indigenous people and the threats and aggressions that they are suffering and facing in total impunity and with the negligent actions of authorities.

'The Frenapi fully blames the government of Carlos Alvarado for what happened to Sergio Rojas; demanding the immediate clarification of this new fact of blood and violence against the Indigenous Peoples of Costa Rica”, the statement said.
