Tehran_ Ali Larijani was reelected as president of the Iranian Parliament with the support of 173 conservative lawmakers who voted for him, thus defeating the reformist politician Mohammad Reza Aref, who won 103 votes, Radio Reloj publishes.

The election defined Larijani also as the "interim" chief of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, which is the official name of the Iranian legislative body.

According to experts although that election was won by the reformist and moderate candidates who support President Hassan Rouhani, the victory was insufficient to win the leadership of the parliament.

A message from the supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who called to turn that institution into a strong bastion against the demands of the powers, was read during the beginning of the tenth legislature of the Parliament.
