Uruguay: The Uruguayan government assured it will not support the re-election of Luis Almagro to the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS), whose management concludes in 2020, Prensa Latina reports.
According to local media, Tabare Vazquez's administration deems Almagro 'lost the conditions to perform his position.'
The FM, Rodolfo Nin Novoa, quoted by the newspaper Caras y Caretas, said that Almagro disappointed the Uruguayan government and that he lost the ability to temper differences among countries.
Almagro, who was the FM of former President Jose Mujica (2010-2015) announced last December that he will be re-elected following the request of several countries, including Colombia and the United States.
During his current term he has been a point of criticism on several occasions for his attachment to the US desires and away from the real interests of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples.
