Brasilia: The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, described as false the documents of the National Truth Commission (CNV) on the crimes committed by the military dictatorship in that country (1964-1985), Radio Habana Cuba publishes.
The statement was made a day after provoking a strong controversy over his statements about the whereabouts of Fernando Santa Cruz, an activist missing in that period.
Upon leaving the Palacio de la Alvorada, the presidential residence, Bolsonaro was approached by journalists, who asked him for his comments on the CNV documents that record the disappearance, at the hands of the military, of Santa Cruz, father of the current president of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), Felipe Santa Cruz.
"Commission of Truth? Do you believe in the Commission of Truth?”, the former army captain replied , according to the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper. He added: "On the question of 1964, there are no documents on whether he was killed or not killed, that's a lie."
Bolsonaro thus questioned the work of the National Truth Commission, created in 2011 by former President Dilma Rousseff.
Bolsonaro said last Monday that Santa Cruz was killed by his own militancy comrades against the dictatorship, and not by the military.
In that context, according to the president, the activist was a member of Acción Popular, a group he called "bloodthirsty," and said he could tell Felipe Santa Cruz how his father disappeared.
