Russia: Russian Foreign Ministry announced today the end of the Treaty of Nuclear Weapons of medium and short range (INF), coinciding with the date advanced by the United States (US) to abandon that pact, Prensa Latina publishes.

In December 2018, Washington presented an ultimatum to Russia to eliminate its 9M729 missiles, located in the Iskander tactical rockets, considering they violated the INF, an argument refuted by Moscow long before that requirement.

The INF provided for the elimination of all rockets, conventional or nuclear, with a range of 500-5,500 kilometers. The Russian military command claims that 9M729 acts at a maximum distance of 460 kilometers, so it is outside the treaty bans.

The Russian General Staff Directorate organized a graphic and practical exhibition for the military attachés accredited here, in order to show the characteristics of the said rocket, to which representatives of the Western powers were absent.

Russia deployed the Iskander systems, capable of carrying nuclear warheads, in the western enclave of Kaliningrad, in response to the basification in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia of US F-16 fighters with possibilities of carrying nuclear tactical weapons.

Recently, President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is not preparing to deploy any medium or short range rocket in any region of the world, while the US also refrain from doing so.
