Washington: The United States sent an aircraft carrier on Tuesday through the disputed South China Sea amid new territorial crises involving the Asian giant and other states in the region, Radio Habana Cuba reports.
The US Navy took a group of Filipino generals, officials and journalists to the USS Ronald Reagan to show them the F / A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets landing and taking off in a catapult while the ship headed to the port of Manila.
The action increases tensions between Beijing and Washington. However, Rear Admiral Karl Thomas told the press that "the motto of this transport is 'peace through force'."
The spokesman said the US military presence helps provide security and stability to foster diplomatic talks between rival litigant nations.
The crossing of the warship comes shortly after US Defense Secretary Mark Esper accused Beijing of destabilizing the Indo-Pacific, using a predatory economy and stealing intellectual property.
China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei have starred intermittent territorial conflicts over strategic waters. For decades, a large part of Asian and world trade has traveled through the South China Sea.
