Quito: Former President Rafael Correa expressed his distrust of the justice of Ecuador, so today he is not surprised by the prison order issued by a judge against him, Prensa Latina publishes.

Victim of this new chapter of judicial and political persecution, Correa reacted to the decision of Judge Daniella Camacho to impose preventive detention for him and other former officials of his Government, as part of the so-called 2012-2016 Bribes case.

The former head of state anticipated in an interview with HispanTV that he had no hope that Judge Camacho would modify her ruling.

"This will only change when the political situation in the country changes," said the ex-president (2007-2017), who already weighs a prison order for being the alleged author of the plagiarism of former legislator Fernando Balda, in 2012.

He explained that he will defend through his lawyers of this new accusation consisting of 11 elements to impute it, including a deposit of six thousand dollars in his bank account.

His lawyer, Fausto Jarrín, clarified that these funds are of legal origin and that they resulted from a loan that was canceled in full.

That sum, according to the version of the government of Lenín Moreno, came from illegal contributions from state contractors, which Correa denied by showing and explaining the source of money through Twitter.

"I had a recurring overdraft, and I borrowed six thousand dollars from the solidarity fund that we had in the Presidency (our same contributions) and paid it to the last penny," Correa wrote in publishing the photo of the record of debt settlement.

Jarrín said that during the investigation, the Prosecutor's Office has not been able to demonstrate any connection with absolutely nothing outside the law.

During the statements, the television channel recalled that President Moreno - who they described as corrupt - is under scrutiny investigation over the INApapers scandal.

At another time, Correa expressed his confidence that by 2021 the elections in Ecuador will be clean, so his political group is preparing for the fight in a country that is in crisis.

Judge Camacho acted the day before in line with the request of the Attorney General of Ecuador, Diana Salazar, who requested a similar measure for former Vice President Jorge Glas (in captivity).

Also for former water secretaries Walter Solís and the Vinicio Alvarado Administration, and former ministerial advisor Yamil Massuh. In total there are 22 people to whom the Prosecutor's Office investigates in relation to this case.

Bribes 2012-2016 started from press reports on a plot of irregular contributions by transnational companies such as Odebrecht and contractors with the State to PAIS Alliance, the training that brought Correa to power.
