Brazil: The Workers' Party (PT) of Brazil will file several lawsuits this Monday for false accusations made by the Federal Police (PF) of the Minister of Justice, Sérgio Moro, and repeated by President Jair Bolsonaro, Prensa Latina reports.
'What we experienced (last) week was another ridiculous set up by reactionary forces trying to criminalize the PT,' stated Gleisi Hoffmann, PT president.
Telephone calls tapped by the Federal Police (PF) as part of the so-called Cravada Operation revealed that a member of criminal organization Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) had stated that the organization was closely linked to the PT. The fake news was shared by Bolsonaro and followers on social media.
In this regard, Prosecutor Lincoln Gakiya, responsible for investigating the criminal organization for more than a decade, told the UOL website that 'There is no evidence of a link between the PT and PCC.'
'Let's be realistic and report this fake news publicized by Moro and Bolsonaro. The criminals are those who are accusing us and they should be held responsible for their actions,' Hoffmann said.
According to the PTA´s official website, the first measure is to report the crime to the Supreme Court and file a suit against Moro and the PF´s investigators who leaked the claims of a criminal without any evidence to substantiate his claims.
The PT is calling for Moro to be urgently removed from the post of Minister of Justice, since he systematically uses the PF for political purposes and lies about the law enforcement agency's work.
The party will also present an action against Bolsonaro for extemporaneous negative propaganda, by repeatedly spreading false news and unfounded accusations against the PT.
