France: The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, said here today the interest of his country in promoting multilateralism with the participation of Russia, by receiving his partner Vladimir Putin, Prensa Latina publishes.
We see today that multilateralism is under attack and we must recompose it looking for new ways to boost it, he said in statements to the press before the start of the talks at Fort de Bregançon, the summer residence of French heads of state.
According to Macron, France-Russia and Russia-European Union (EU) relations are important in the realization of this objective, so Paris is willing to move on that sense.
The host president referred to conflicts and crises that threaten regional and global stability, such as those in Ukraine, Syria, Iran and Libya, and the need to work on solving them.
He also underlined his expectations to discuss with Putin concerns of the international community such as disarmament, collective security and climate change.
For his part, Putin thanked Macron for his reception in the southern town bathed by the Mediterranean, where he arrived by helicopter.
The Russian leader agreed with Macron on the importance of the multilateral approach to the problems facing humanity and the search for Moscow-EU relations of trust.
The meeting of the heads of state takes place five days after the start of the G-7 summit in Biarritz, a forum from which Russia was excluded in 2014 on accusations of promoting the conflict in eastern Ukraine and annexing Crimea.
