Brussels: The European Union (EU) will once again condemn the trade war initiated by the United States, according to official reports released this Wednesday in Brussels, Prensa Latina reports.

The repudiation of Washington's policy is likely to gain strength during the G7 Summit scheduled for August 24-26 in the French town of Biarritz.

This rising offensive breaks the traditional consensus between the great powers, due to the impact of the increasingly dangerous trade war on the European economy.

The EU does not expect tremendous progress on the trade front during the summit, which will not address the trade agreement envisaged for negotiation between Washington and the EU, according to the texts.

However, analysts note that the meeting will serve above all to hear first hand the impressions of U.S. President Donald Trump.

The slowdown in the global economy, trade and tension with China will be addressed by leaders of the Group of Seven most developed countries (G7).

All members of the G7 are set to attend the Summit: the United States, Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan, plus the EU.

The latter, represented by the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, will reiterate that it is committed to a reform of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

In addition, Tusk will argue that this should be the forum for resolving global conflicts, without resorting to protectionist measures or trade barriers.

Reports add that the EU will send a message of support for multilateralism and conflict resolution in the WTO, and that the trade war with China does not benefit the economy in the long run.

Analysts agree that Trump's arrival at the White House destroyed the premise under which the G7 has operated since its inception in 1975: to bring industrial powers together to address common problems.
