Brasilia: While the Amazon burns and criticism of its environmental policy increases, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro suggested on Wednesday, without foundation, the guilt of non-governmental organizations in those fires.

The National Space Research Institute said that the outbreaks of burning in the Brazilian Amazon increased from 82 percent from January to August of this year compared to the same previous period, the highest number since 2013.

Ecologist Marina Silva criticized the behavior of Bolsonaro, who denies the existence of deforestation in the so-called lung of the planet.

The tension created by the fires was palpable on Wednesday when they booed the Minister of Environment, Ricardo Salles, while intervening in the Week of Latin America and the Caribbean on climate change, in Salvador de Bahia.
