Baku: The consensus around the issues and strategic positions for the Non-Aligned Movement (Mnoal), whose XVIII Summit of Heads of State and Government concludes today in Baku, capital city of Azerbaijan, prevails today, Prensa Latina publishes.
The leaders and high representatives of the 120 member countries will approve on this final day the Baku Declaration, which contains the guidelines and positions of the Movement, which was born in Belgrade in 1961 and today brings together almost two-thirds of the member States of the United Nations Organization (UN).
According to Prensa Latina, the director general of Multilateral Affairs of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Rodolfo Reyes Rodríguez, told the final document had reached the general agreement since its discussion at the level of experts and senior officials.
It is not often that such a level of consensus is reached before getting the approval of the Heads of State and Government, he said.
The Movement is committed to defending its foundational principles, such as respect for self-determination, non-interference in internal affairs and the rejection of unilateralism and measures of coercion of great powers against the countries of the South, he added.
Although not mentioned by name, the actions of the United States government have the rejection of the Non-Aligned, as they oppose the policy of sanctions and subversion against countries such as Cuba, Venezuela and others from different continents, the diplomat of The Caribbean Island said
Another principle to recover is that of solidarity. This was fundamental in the struggle of the South African people against apartheid, the South African Foreign Minister, Naledi Pandor, recalled here.
In the developing world there are millions trapped in poverty and insecurity. They need the united voice of the Non-Aligned Movement and the peoples of the South, he said.
