United Nations_ The participants in the 9th session of the States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities called for the protection and attention to the specific needs of the people with disabilities above all because the devastating impact of poverty and exclusion in that sector, Prensa Latina publishes.
During the last day of the event, the Cuban Deputy Ambassador, Ana Silvia Rodriguez, recalled that 80 percent of people with physical, mental or other types of disabilities live in poverty.
The diplomatic highlighted that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted on last September, acknowledged the need to empower the most vulnerable people.
Rodriguez also urged to strengthen global cooperation and the transfer of knowledge and technology to the countries of the South, in order to implement programs and policies to improve the living conditions and possibilities of people with disabilities.
According to the United Nations 1.1 billion people with disabilities (15 percent of the world's population) live on the planet.
