La Paz: Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) member Simon Sergio Choque was elected the new president of the House of Deputies of Bolivia, according to a resolution published in local media on Thursday.

The MAS majority bench decided to 'modify House Resolution 001/2018-2019 of January 19, 2019' and elect Choque to head the legislative body during the 2019-2020 period, Prensa Latina reports.

On Wednesday night, MAS Senator and First Vice President of Deputies, Susana Rivero, chaired the session during which the resignations of legislator Victor Borda as president of the House of Deputies, and Representative Mario Guerrero were approved.

Rivero told reporters that she had not resigned, as suggested by fake news that circulated on social networks.

During the session, at which participants agreed to establish a new leadership, the lawmakers who took the floor denounced the coup d'état against the government of Evo Morales.
