Santiago de Chile: Chile woke up today with a new day of national strike called by the trade union organizations of the Social Unity Board, as it will be the preamble of a general strike scheduled for tomorrow, Prensa Latina publishes.

The organizers of this protest foresee that on Monday the strike will include port and airport workers nationwide, to which unions from the education, health and public officials sectors, among others, will join tomorrow.

The protests are a demonstration of the rejection of the way in which the government faces the demands of the population, dialoguing only with political parties and without listening to the social movement that leads the mass protests.

In this regard, the president of the Unitary Central of Workers (CUT), Barbara Figueroa, said that the constitutional process concluded with some political forces, does not take into account the seriousness of the crisis in the country or deepen the need for an Assembly Constituent to guarantee the democratic participation of all.

She also demanded the cessation of police repression of peaceful demonstrations and assured that there must be truth, justice and reparation for the victims of human rights violations. '

For its part, the spokesman for the Port Union of Chile, José Salazar, said that the union, in coordination with workers in the sector and the stevedores in Valparaíso, will start the strike from 08.00 local time in the 24 ports of the country to stop the work totally.

For this Monday a mobilization is planned at 5:00 p.m. in the Plaza de la Dignidad (Baquedano) where women will have a great role, commemorating the day against gender violence, and for the night a cacerolazo is announced at the national level.

Meanwhile, tomorrow Tuesday the demonstrations will begin from 11:00 in all the cities of Chile.

This strike begins at a time when President Sebastián Piñera announced the presentation in Congress of a bill, which would allow the presence of the army in the streets to 'protect the critical infrastructure'.
