Bogota_ Colombian Senator, Roy Barreras, confirmed that the government delegation in the peace talks will travel to Havana today to expedite agreements with the FARC-EP on the bilateral ceasefire and the putting down of weapons, Prensa latina reports.

According to Barreras, both warring sides will reconcile positions in equally key issues such as the disarmament of the guerrillas, the areas where they will be located during the procedure and the conditions for the verification of those phases, which will be coordinated by the United Nations.

He was recently co-president of the ruling National Unity Party (U).

Barreras said that the wait to sign the peace agreement after more than 50 years of internal conflict has caused anxiety but called to wait for the development of the talks in Havana with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP).

President Juan Manuel Santos expressed his confidence yesterday that the negotiation with the rebel movement, the main involved in the confrontation, will be satisfactorily completed by July 20.

The talks in the Cuban capital began more than three years ago and as a result of them, there are agreements in issues related to comprehensive rural reform, political participation, fighting illegal drug trafficking, and victims.

In addition to the mentioned issues, the mechanism through which the people will countersign all agreed at the polls, and the terms for the demobilization and reintegration into civilian life of the now combatants, with guarantees for their safety to avoid that something similar to what happened with Patriotic Union (UP) occurs, are still pending, Barreras said.
