San Salvador _ The protection of the environment in Latin American countries will center today the debates of the participants in the 22nd Meeting of the Sao Paulo Forum, that begins today in El Salvador.
Lety Méndez, Salvadoran secretary of Environment, told Radio Havana Cuba, that the analysis of the critical situation of the countries, as a consequence of the natural phenomena is among the main objectives of the event, to propose concrete actions and to face the climatic change.
Facing the serious situation of ecological imbalance and climatic change in whose base is the world capitalist economic order and the neoliberal model, it is important the protection of the environment, Lety Méndez emphasized.
Left and progressive women of Latin America and the Caribbean will share experiences on their role in the processes of change of the continent, during the 22nd Meeting of the Sao Paulo Forum that sesiona starting from today in El Salvador, said the note published by the website of Radio Havana Cuba.
Lourdes Palacios, representative of the Secretary of the Woman of the Farabundo Martà for the National Liberation Front (FMLN), highlighted that in the context of the appointment it will take place the VII Women’s meeting.
Through that modality, the participants will exchange on the contributions of that sector to the transformations experienced in the last two decades in favor of our countries in areas like the health, education, sports, culture, among other.
Women have been those more affected with the imposition of the neoliberal pattern in the continent, not only from the social, but also in the economic aspect, she underlined.
Let us remember that many women in our countries are those that lead their family, those that take the sustenance to the home, those that generate the conditions for their children to grow, to study, she said.
The Salvadorian leader emphasized that women have been in majority who are making advance these processes in Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, among other, to achieve a deep change.
In the case of El Salvador, in the last elections, the 55 percent of the valid votes was given by women, which means that we also define the transformations that Salvador Sánchez Cerén’s government is carrying out, she detailed.
The FMLN will contribute to the Forum the experience of its gender politics and what has meant for its militants the proportion of a minimum of 35 percent of women for public positions and inside the party that of course we have overcome, she explained.
“We almost have arrived to the parity in the Legislative Assembly, in the Central American" Parliament, she stood out.
Women participate directly in the formation of the country’s policies, the internal politicos of our parties, and that will be another important contribution that we will give to the Sao Paulo Forum of Sao Paulo, she highlighted.
Lourdes Palacios added that the VII Meeting of Women will pronounce against the coup d'etat and the political attack perpetrated again Brazil’s president, Dilma Rousseff.
The 22nd Meeting of Sao Paulo Forum will take place from Thursday to next Saturday at the International Center of Fairs and Conventions in this capital.
Besides this space of exchange of the women's experiences, there will also session other for young, natives, parliamentarian and local authorities.
