La Paz_ The President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, today expressed his respect and admiration to the people and government of Cuba for its mediating role in bringing to an end the armed conflict in Colombia, Prensa Latina reports.
"After this conflict is resolved, our America has a heritage that is social peace, and our obligation is to work for this peace," said Evo in a press conference.
Morales also congratulated the Colombian President, Juan Manuel Santos, and the Colombia Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia- People's Army (FARC-EP) for the signing of the historical agreement on a bilateral cease-fire on Thursday.
"I hope that dialogue is the way to solve the remaining topics," said Evo.
He also recalled the matters that are yet to be solved in the region: Guantanamo for Cuba, the Falkland Islands for Argentina and the sea for Bolivia.
During the press conference, the Bolivian Head of State condemned the attitude of the OAS Secretary-General, Luis Almagro, who supports the United States' intervention in Venezuela.
Evo condemned Almagro's attempt to apply the Democratic Charter of the OAS against Venezuela, when this instrument is only used when there have been coups d'état, military dictatorships or civil blows, not against democratically elected governments as is the case with Venezuela.
"I feel that there is still an interest by the United States to intervene," warned Evo, and added that powerful nations are thinking about "how to take possession of the natural resources in our countries".
Evo concluded by saying that in Latin America and the Caribbean, there are countries and governments that are growing, and making others respect their sovereignty and dignity.
