Geneva_  The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) announced this Wednesday its willingness to assist the Caribbean nations affected by Hurricane Matthew, Radio Rebelde published.

Miguel Barreto, WFP's Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, said that the priority of the institution is to support the actions of governments to save lives and address the food needs of the most vulnerable people.

A note published on the website of WFP, the UN says that to aid Haiti, the country with the highest food insecurity in the region, besides being among the nations affected by Matthew, WFP has food available to some 300 000 people for a month if necessary.
