Singapore_ The validity of the Paris Agreement shows that with political will, countries can put aside their differences and work towards a common global imperative, Minister of Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulfikli said at the Climate Change Summit in Marrakech , Morocco, referring to the entry into force of that pact in less than a year after its adoption in December 2015, Prensa Latina reports.

The Minister added that history will judge that document, not only because of the number of nations that signed it or how fast it came into force -November 4-, but also because of the effectiveness in its application.

He also called those who are about to ratify him to do so. That legally binding treaty provides for measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to keep the average global temperature rise below two Celsius degrees above pre-industrial levels.

A strong global response to climate change requires universal participation, he said.

Masagos Zulfikli recalled that Singapore was among the first 55 countries to take that step, on September 21st, and it's proud to have contributed to the entry into force of the agreement'.

This Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 22) will meet until tomorrow to establish a plan to implement the Paris Agreement.
