Quito_ The Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) is today concerned after the triumph of Donald Trump in the recent US elections, on the determinations to be made by the elected president with the Latin Americans residing in the northern country, Radio Habana Cuba publishes.
Ernesto Samper, secretary general of Unasur, commented that the organization congratulated the new president and acknowledged that it was a triumph in democracy, "nevertheless he reiterated that the instance persists in the concern about aspects raised during Trump’s campaign that could affect the region.Â
Is the migration policy going to materialize, especially in what has to do with the departure of large numbers of Latinos because of the tightening of immigration policies? Will the famous wall with Mexico that would physically divide the Americas be built? Is it going to continue the relationship, the opening and the new relationship of Cuba with the United States?, he questioned.
He also expressed other doubts such as whether the United States will maintain the same position in relation to certain topics such as the Malvinas Islands (Argentina), whether they continue supporting the peace process in Colombia, or if the free Trade agreements with Washington will go on, in the light of the protectionist demonstrations.
These aspects concern us as a region, to establish a new form of relationship with the new government, he warned.
"If we talk about a tough agenda like the pretention of narcotizing the relationship with the United States, which sought to transfer the burden of the fight against drugs to the region, that kind of relationship does not interest us.
Instead he said that if it is a question of improving human rights and regional commitment to climate change, a relationship that allows Latinos to work and be recognized in the United States, that kind of relationship does interest us, he said.
