Geneva_ The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, conveyed today his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends,  people and government of Cuba for the death of Fidel Castro Ruz , Radio Habana Cuba publishes.

In a letter sent to Bruno Rodríguez, Cuban Foreign Minister, Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein recalled the important legacy left by Fidel with his significant contribution to the advancement of economic, social and cultural rights in the Caribbean island, in particularly the universal access to health and education.

Also, those attending the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with Palestine paid a minute of silence in tribute to the Commander in Chief, at the initiative of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (Mnoal).

The ambassadors, mission officials, international organizations, members of civil society and other friends of Palestine, gathered in the XXth Ward of the United Nations Palace in the Swiss city of Geneva, joined the tribute.

For his part, the Venezuelan ambassador, Jorge Valero, representing the Mnoal, emphasized the figure of Fidel as the founder of that Movement and recalled how much he represents for the peoples of the world in their struggle for social justice, development and peace.

William Lacy Swing, director general of the International Organization for Migration, went to the Cuban diplomatic headquarters in Geneva to express his condolences and solidarity on the death of the Cuban leader on November 25th.

In brief dialogue with the Cuban ambassador, Anayansi Rodríguez, the high official referred to Fidel as a legendary leader and one of the most influential personalities of his time.
