Washington__ The US Senate, dominated by the Republican Party, voted to initiate the process to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of outgoing US President Barack Obama, popularly known as Obamacare.

With 51 votes in favor and 48 against, the Republican senators instructed the committees this Thursday to begin drafting the corresponding bill.

After seven hours of debate, the Republicans won enough votes to begin the process that ends with the repeal of one of the most emblematic laws of the outgoing President.

With this, the Republicans give the initial kick to the Trump administration, which on several occasions had announced that it would repeal the Obamacare.
"The Senate began delivering the promises made to the Americans," said Republican Conference chairman Sen. John Thune.

In his statement, Thune said: "The aim of the red party is to replace Obama's health care reform with a personalized, patient-centric and affordable one for all Americans."
