London_ The director of the National Council of Police Chiefs, Simon Chesterman reported this Thursday that British uniformed men will be able to shoot drivers of vehicles that are about to commit an attack, Radio Habana Cuba reports.
So far, security officials were not allowed to shoot drivers on moving cars to avoid further damage, but the latest attacks in London, Nice (France) and Berlin (Germany) prompted change in that policy, Chesterman said.
In these terrorist assaults, the attackers used vehicles as their main weapon, a horrible tactic that has long been used, the source said.
When that is the case, there are not many options left than to shoot the driver to stop it, especially if it is a truck, said the police director, who coordinates operations between the different law enforcement agencies.
Earlier, one of the biggest risks was that the bullet bounced off the glass, but Chesterman said that the uniformed men now have ammunition that can pierce windows and doors.
On March 22 an individual rolled over several pedestrians as he crossed the Westminster Bridge with a car at high speed. He then came to the doors of the British parliament and stabbed a policeman before being shot dead.
In the attack a total of five people were killed and around 50 wounded.
