Beijing_  Chinese President Xi Jinping asked his US counterpart Donald Trump for moderation on the Korean peninsula issue on a phone conversation, Prensa Latina reports.

According to the official press, Xi considered in his dialog with Trump that the parties involved should avoid comments and actions that could lead to the escalation of tensions and stressed that Beijing is prepared to work with the United States for the sake of an appropriate resolution of the matter.

Xi stressed that both countries share the interest in denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and maintain peace there and said that this issue should be addressed through dialogue and negotiations, in order to achieve a political solution.

In addition, Xi said that the Asian giant seeks to maintain contact with Washington for a timely solution to the problem based on mutual respect.

According to the president, both parties can intensify their dialogue and communication in accordance with the consensus reached, promote cooperation in different fields and address adequately the concerns with the aim of ensuring a steady progress of bilateral ties.

For his part, Trump said that the evolution of the ties between China and the United States is encouraging and will undoubtedly be better in the future.

He said his country fully understands Chinese efforts to resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula and wants to continue to maintain close contact with Beijing on key international and regional issues of common concern.

According to the official press, Trump said he looks forward to his next state visit to China.
