Guatemala_ 15 percent of the pesticides that are traded today in the world corresponds to illegal products, according to a report of the United Nations Agency against Interregional Crime. 

It is a global problem that affects farmers, the crop protection industry and generates various risks to human health, plants, the environment and the economy, according to an article published by Prensa Latina.

The report highlights trends in unauthorized pesticide transactions and argues that coordinated and comprehensive work between national authorities and international agencies is essential to effectively combating organized crime.

In Latin America, this illegal phytosanitary trade is currently of concern to Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil and other countries.
