Panama_ Rural teachers in the east of Panama working under harsh conditions are still on their strike that began two months ago, while the Panamanian Education Ministry (MEDUCA) threatened them with administrative sanctions if the stoppage continues, Prensa Latina reports.

MEDUCA Minister Marcela Paredes called on strikers to return to the classrooms next Monday, or face expulsion.

In response, teachers reiterated that they will remain on strike until the institution fulfills previous agreements to improve working conditions for educators in intricate areas, which are dangerous for teachers and their students.

The main demand of the protest is that a negotiation table is legalized by executive decree, so that its agreements are enforced, taking into account that previously, in meetings on June 28 and July 10, MEDUCA did not abide by what it agreed to.
