Washington_ Scott Kelly, North American cosmonaut from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), enlarge his stature in five centimeters during the year his stayed in the International Space Station, Prensa Latina reported.

After the return of the astronaut to the Earth, the scientists of the US agency, explained that the change is provoked by the impact that the micro gravity in the space has on the spinal column.

They also explained that this enlargement is temporal and that after a brief period in the planet, Kelly will recover his normal height.

According to the explanation offered, when the earth gravity force is released, the spine enlarges to even a three per cent and it can grew to 7,6 centimeters, but only at night when the person is on bed.

The specialists also argued that Kelly is part of the One Year Mission program, aimed at studying the effects of the weightlessness in human beings.

The development of the cosmonaut was compared with the height of his twin brother Mark, on Earth and with this research the scientists are analyzing other consequences as the loss of calcium in the bones.
