Moscow_ Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated today the government's willingness to cooperate in normalizing relations with the United States, but assured they would react to any action that would be harmful to his country, Prensa Latina reports.

As President Valdimir Putin has said on several occasions, we do not want to fight Washington. We maintain a friendly attitude toward the US people and are willing to cooperate constructively, provided our interests are not affected, Lavrov stressed.

We sincerely hope that the political atmosphere between the two states will return to normal, but two are needed for a tango, and our partners seem to prefer a solo breakdance, he added.

During a meeting with students of the Institute of International Relations, attached to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the foreign minister pointed out that Moscow will give a strong response to acts that damage this nation and are aimed at further deteriorating bilateral ties.

The West tries to discredit our foreign policy and distort it. They want an obedient Russia, which makes concessions to the detriment of its own interests. To this end, it uses tools such as sanctions and media warfare, Lavrov noted.
