United Nations_ The United Nations system is mobilized in support to the efforts to address the impact of Hurricane Irma on the Eastern Caribbean, Prensa Latina publishes.

Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, said several agencies of the organization are deployed with their assistance in the area.

Dujarric echoed statements by the new Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Mark Lowcock, who highlighted the actions taken by various entities since Irma's arrival in the region with its strong winds and torrential rains.

The United Nations has accumulated resources and provided technical assistance to Caribbean islands threatened by the meteor, which struck Antigua and Barbuda yesterday and then continued its destructive passage through the Virgin Islands, Anguilla, San Martin, Puerto Rico and other territories.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the Development Program and the United Nations Children's Fund stand out among the agencies that have supported the preparations for Irma and the recovery of its impact.
