Washington_Hurricane Irma fell today to category 1 and its sustained maximum winds dropped to 120 kilometers per hour as it moves along the northwestern coast of the US state of Florida, Prensa Latina reports.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that at 05:00 local time the center of the hurricane was located 55 kilometers east-southeast of Cedar Key, and 100 kilometers north of Tampa.

According to NBC News, in the latter city there were fallen trees and power lines, but very little damage and no sign of flood after the passage of the system, which arrived yesterday morning to the Florida Keys with category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale of a maximum of 5.

Despite their weakening, forecasters warned that high winds and sudden floods remain a threat as it spins in northern Florida and continues to Georgia in the coming hours.

According to CNN, two tornadoes that destroyed several mobile homes were reported in Brevard County, although there were no casualties.

Nearly 4,000,000 people were without power throughout the state and the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), William Long, informed that some places will be without electricity for weeks.

The television station also reported that the streets of Miami became raging rivers as floods rose, and the international airport suffered 'major water damage.'

Meanwhile, in Miami-Dade County police announced the arrest of 28 people for robbery and looting.

'We have made numerous arrests for looting. We are patrolling and we will not tolerate criminal activities while our community recovers from Hurricane Irma,' the body said on social networks.

Yesterday President Donald Trump approved the declaration of great disaster in Florida due to the passage of Irma and announced that he will soon visit to the southern territory.
