Spain The pro-independence parties would win the regional elections in December in Catalonia, according to a survey, but would not get the majority of seats needed in the parliament to reactivate their campaign for the separation of Spain, Radio Reloj publishes.Â
The president of the Spanish Government, Mariano Rajoy, called for elections on December 21 after ceasing the previous regional administration and imposing direct control over Catalonia, shortly after the Catalan legislators approved a unilateral declaration of independence.
The campaign for the independence of Catalonia has submerged Spain in its worst political crisis since the return to democracy four decades ago, as the secessionist advance has stoked nationalism in other parts of the country.
In another poll, the pro-independence members would obtain 65 of the 165 seats in the parliament of Catalonia.
