Tegucigalpa_ Honduras woke up today under a curfew that will last for 10 days, amid a social and political crisis in the face of allegations of an electoral fraud in favor of the president and candidate for re-election, Juan Orlando Hernández, Prensa Latina reports.
The suspension of the constitutional guarantees took effect from last night at 23:00 local time and will be between 18:00 and 6:00 local time of the following day for the aforementioned period.
The decree, which consists of eight articles, was read last night on national radio and television by the coordinator of the Cabinet of Government, Jorge Ramón Hernández.
In this way, the right of persons to free movement is restricted in all or part of the national territory in response to the facts.
Also exempt from this measure are the members of the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE), representatives of political parties, national and international observers and social communicators accredited to the electoral entity as well as the relief and health agencies, as well as the security forces and diplomatic personnel, of international organizations and missions accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are exempt.
According to the government, these actions stem from the protests and violence that took place on the streets of the country since last Wednesday, when the Alliance of Opposition against the Dictatorship denounced the consummation of a presumed electoral fraud.
