Ramallah_Dozens of Palestinian protesters were wounded and at least 200 were arrested by Israeli troops today during the fifth day of clashes after the United States recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Prensa Latina reports.  Â
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, since the beginning of the demonstrations last week in the occupied West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem, about 1,175 protesters have been wounded by Tel Aviv's troops, four have died and about 200 have been arrested.
The Palestinian Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs confirmed that some demonstrators threw stones at Israeli soldiers in the clashes. They fired combat ammunitions, bullets covered with a rubber coating, and tear gas.
Washington's announcement on Wednesday, December 6, sparked immediate protests in Jerusalem, Gaza and the occupied West Bank, as well as in several Arab and Islamic nations.
After the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump on Jerusalem on December 6, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that this is a stimulus and 'an encouragement for Israel to continue its policy of occupation, apartheid and ethnic cleansing.'
Abbas said in his statements that this decision is also 'a reward for Israeli violations of international resolutions.'
