Washington_ Almost 60 percent of U.S. citizens supports lifting the economic, commercial and financial blockade on Cuba and president Obama’s policy toward the island, Prensa Latina published.
Amid the visit of the President who arrived yesterday to the Caribbean nation, the 62 percent of citizens consider positive to the interests of Washington the links with Cuba.
In general, 52 percent of those interviewed of several political trends support the work of Obama in this regard, while among democrats the figure rises to 78 percent, according to the survey organizers, a little over half the republicans criticized the efforts of the President to improve the links with Cuba.
According to the survey, 70 percent of citizens demand the U.S. government puts an end to the unique benefits given to Cuban emigrants who arrive at U.S. territory, under the precepts of the Law of Adjustment and the policy of dry feet-wet feet.
Those surveyed said the authorities of this country should eliminate immediately those privileges and try the immigrants from the island in a similar way to which they do with the rest of foreigners who arrive to this northern nation.
According to The New York Times, the poll stressed the substantial change of opinion of U.S. citizens on Cuba over the last years, as over half expressed now a favorable opinion about the island, 10 percent over what they said in the autumn of 2014.
