The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Syria, Walid Al-Moallem, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Marcelino Medina, highlighted today the historic relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, Prensa Latina reports.  

During the two-day official visit by the Cuban diplomat to this Arab country, both officials also discussed the evolution of the situation in Syria and the region, said the Foreign Ministry of this Arab country.

Both parties agreed on the importance of developing and consolidating relations in several areas; as well as maintaining the coordination between the two countries in international forums to support their just causes.

During the meeting, Al-Moallem gave an explanation to the distinguished Cuban visitor about the efforts of this Arab country in the confrontation to the terrorist war launched by extremist groups, supported by powers of the region and the West.

He pointed out, in that sense, that the Syrian people will continue their fight against terrorism and its sponsors.

The head of Syrian diplomacy also expressed his gratitude to Cuba for its solidarity in support of this country, and reaffirmed the continued support of Damascus to the Caribbean State in the face of the unjust economic blockade imposed by the United States for more than half a century.

For his part, the Cuban representative reaffirmed that his country will continue to support the government and people of Syria in their confrontation with the unjust terrorist war, the sources said.

He expressed his gratitude to Syria for its support for actions aimed at ending the unjust economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed on Cuba and ratified that Havana will continue to support Syria in international forums.

During the exchange, al-Hilal highlighted the deep and solid historical relations between Syria and Cuba, and noted that these ties grew and evolved dramatically, becoming a model of international relations.

Medina reiterated Cuba's solidarity with Syria in the latter's confrontation with the terrorist war, and highlighted the Syrian people's support for the Cuban people who have suffered for decades from pressures, economic sanctions and the blockade by Washington.
