Havana_ More than 130 thousand tons of charcoal per year are exported to Europe by the Agroforestry Group of the Ministry of Agriculture of Cuba, which introduces new technologies to offer a higher quality product, Prensa Latina reports.Â
These sales allow income of about 32 million pesos (same in dollars at official exchange rate), according to the director of Development of the Group, Anaiisis Zulueta, who participates in the XXI International Fair of Food and Agriculture Fiagrop 2018, inaugurated yesterday in this capital.
Charcoal is produced from marabú and other plants with high energy value, and is an item that is used in kitchens, in various industries, heating and other uses, she explained.
Although the Agricultural and Livestock Groups and other organisms also produce charcoal, Agroforestry is the most specialized in this area, Zulueta said.
The entity is widely represented in Fiagrop 2018, through its apiculture companies, natural fibers, ornamental plants, coffee, cocoa, coconut and other items, and its elite producers, the specialist commented.
