Nueva Gerona_ With the installation of three modules of photovoltaic panels in the same number of isolated houses, one hundred percent of the possible houses to be electrified in the Isla de la Juventud have this important service, Radio Habana Cuba publishes.

In these rural houses, far from the lines served by the local power system, the beneficiaries with these solar panels, as well as lighting, can connect a radio set, a modern television or a fan whose power does not exceed the 55 watt, Ramón Duvergel, Director of the Business Unit of Base of Renewable Sources of Energy and Emergency Generating Groups said.

Duvergel explained that the modules installed consist of a photovoltaic panel of 250 watt / hour, an inverter with two batteries and five nine-watt LED lamps and the bulbs have a long lifespan and great energy efficiency, because they provide significant and immediate energy savings although the manufacturing cost is higher than that of fluorescent lamps.

The official added that in the special municipality, the contribution of Renewable Energy Sources to electricity generation allowed to save 1,854 tons of fossil fuel during the past year.
