Paris_ The Director General of the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (Unesco), Audrey Azoulay, received today the Minister of Foreign Affairs Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez, occasion in which both parts ratified their disposition to continue developing of the excellent relations of cooperation they share, Prensa Latina reports.
According to diplomatic sources, during the cordial meeting held in the Parisian headquarters of the organization, Rodríguez and Azoulay discussed the state of bilateral ties, the challenges and the future of Unesco, and agreed on the validity and importance of its mandate, essential for the sustainable development.
Both parties "highly valued Unesco's contribution to Peace, through its spheres of competence”, a statement said.
At the meeting, the Director General was accompanied by the Head of the Bureau of Latin America and the Caribbean, Sophia El-Akremi.
On the Cuban side participated the ambassador Dulce Buergo, permanent delegate of Cuba to Unesco, and Barbara Elena Montalvo, head of the Ministry's Secretariat.
"The visit reaffirmed Cuba's commitment to the organization, its recognition at the headquarters and showed the excellent state of relations between the country and Unesco”, the text added.
The Cuban minister carried out this week a European tour that took him initially to Brussels, where he headed the first Joint Cuba-European Union Council, together with the head of the regional bloc's diplomacy, Federica Mogherini.
Then he traveled to Geneva to present the national report to the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review of the Human Rights Council, an occasion in which he detailed the advances achieved by island in the matter.
