Havana_Army General Raul Castro Ruz, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, congratulated the members of the Fruit Cooperative Movement in Cuba for their results during 2015, the Cuban News Agency published.

Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, conveyed the greetings during the VI National Meeting of the activity, held at the Integral Center l of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) in the province of Artemisa.

The also Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers noted that this leading movement has the potential to go further and deliver as many fresh fruits for the consumption of the population, the tourism and the exports.

Machado Ventura urged the 206 cooperatives of the fruits movement to take advantage of the advances in science and technology, to use efficiently the vermiculture, the certified seeds, compost and natural bio-fertilizers to raise the quality of products that could be sale in the international market

He said that farmers should earn more from their work, as a main premise for developing the economy and lower the sales prices to the population.

ANAP president, Rafael Pozo Santisteban, said the new grassroots movement should multiply their actions in the cooperative to facilitate communication and business management that ensure supplies, contracts and safe destiny for each of the crops planted.

In 2015 the fruit production reached 113 percent compliance, accounting for 16.8 of the total obtained in Agriculture.

The cooperative and agricultural sector has the challenge of preparing the conditions to select a higher amount of exportable products and ensure deliveries of fruits for the growing number of tourists expected to receive in the Cuba, this 2016.
