Havana_ Fidel's words, root and essence of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), were the first to be heard this Friday during the closing of the IX Congress of the largest mass organization in the country, a day presided over by the Army General Raul Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Party, accompanied by José Ramón Machado Ventura, Second Secretary; as well as other authorities, Granma publishes.
"If we make a comprehensive assessment of the work of the organization from the previous Congress to this one, we can say that there are sustained and promising advances," said Machado Ventura in his central words. He insisted on the need to look for ways to involve more the neighborhood; give direct participation to the neighbors, listen carefully to their concerns and interests, and add them; without sticking to formulas or schemes.
During the final session of the conclave, where the 58 years of the CDR were held, the results of the election of the new national leadership were announced; which, in its first meeting, elected the national secretariat composed of 15 members.
Carlos Rafael Miranda Martínez, member of the State Council, was ratified as national coordinator and Betty Oria González was elected as national vice-coordinator.
On the composition of the Secretariat it was reported that eight of its members are women; the average age reaches 44.2 years; 47% are blacks and mestizos and 93.3% are militants of the Party or the Young Communists League (UJC).
When speaking, the National Coordinator, before referring to the productive debates of the Congress and the projections of the organization, before speaking of challenges and recognitions, before all this, sent a message of condolences to the Vietnamese people for the death of its president Tran Dai Quang, and requested a minute of silence in tribute to who was a dear friend of Cuba.
Subsequently, the opinions of the work in commissions related to the functioning of the CDRs and the policy of cadres, the ideological work and support for the tasks of the economy; as well as the actions of the organization in pursuit of surveillance and prevention were approved.
In this regard, it was emphasized the need to strengthen the attention to grassroots structures, which is an essential link in the CDR’s work and they made emphasis on the educational work with the family, especially with young people, in order to achieve greater participation of these in the life of the organization.
In addition, before the more than 470 delegates present, it was called to intensify the CDR's participation in the fight against indiscipline and illegalities, through actions. It is a systematic and responsible task.
During the closing ceremony, the Army General and Susely Morfa González, first secretary of the UJC, received an album with photos of the 168 Youth Detachments IX Congress, "as a sign of the continuity and commitment of the new generations with the organization and the work of the Revolution”.
The territories of Santiago de Cuba and Pinar del Río deserved the category of National Vanguard; Granma and Cienfuegos reached the status of outstanding.
The program of the meeting also reserved a place for the speeches of several representatives of friendly delegations that attended the Congress, coming from Vietnam, Laos, Mexico and Venezuela.
Meanwhile, José Alberto López Luzardo, vice minister for the Communes and Social Movements of Venezuela, recalled the legacy of Chávez and Fidel, spoke about the American attack against the Bolívar’ Homeland and recognized the work of the CDR, whose experiences are valid to strengthen the community work in his country.
