La Habana_ Azcuba Sugar Group reported today that at present three mills have begun the grinding of cane in the 2018/19 sugar harvest, the Argeo MartÃnez, Majibacoa and Cristino Naranjo, of the provinces of Guantánamo, Las Tunas and HolguÃn, respectively, out of the 54 that will intervene in this campaign, Prensa Latina publishes.
It is expected that 17 plants will process cane this month, and the rest will do so in December, said Azcuba spokesman Liobel Pérez.
The Group seeks to improve its performance in the small harvest - the one carried out in November-December - and for this intensifies the enlistment of the factories, so that they are incorporated into the milling before the end of December.
The Cuban harvest is scheduled to take place in 150 days, until the end of April approximately, and during the whole period high and stable grinds are needed to achieving the greatest possible sugar extraction.
