Havana_ Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez condemned Friday US President Donald Trump''s decision to recognize Israel''s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, where it militarily occupies Syrian territory, Prensa Latina reports.
The official tweeted this position occurs 'in clear violation of the UN resolutions on the issue.'
Trump stressed Thursday that the United States should recognize as Israeli the Golan Heights, a plain of some 1,800 square kilometers, of which 1,200 are under occupation of Tel Aviv, 235 are controlled by the UN Force of Observation of the Separation (UNDOF) and the rest continues with Syrian sovereignty.
Several countries have criticized Trump's decision while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised it.
Russia warned the White House’s position could worsen the situation in the already tense Levantine scenario while France warned it is a step contrary to international law and Syria described it as irresponsible.
