Havana: More than five thousand teachers have decided to return to the classroom after the salary increase, the Minister of Education, Ena Elsa Velázquez, announced today on her Twitter account, the Cuban News Agency publishes.

The decision of the revolutionary government to increase salaries in the budgeted sector recognizes, in particular, the role of educators in Cuban society.

"There are already more than five thousand teachers who have applied to return, after the salary increase. Applications are made at the Municipal Education Directions. Teachers with experience and willingness to work well return, favors the teaching coverage, the minister said.

According to what was previously reported by the Velazquez herself, the teacher deficit to start the school year was 6%, which should decrease with this return of experienced teachers.

According to Ena Elsa, it was planned to start with 94% of the places covered, higher than the previous year by 2%. For the rest of the needs they will hire teachers from the production and services, student assistants of the universities, among others.
