Havana: An earthquake of 2.9 degrees on the Richter scale was reported in the Cuban resort of Varadero, in the western province of Matanzas, Prensa Latina publishes.
According to a note released by the National Seismological Service Stations Network, at 9:57 p.m. (local time) on July 31, a perceptible telluric movement occurred at coordinates 23.20 degrees North Latitude and -81.18 degrees Longitude West, with a depth of 5.0 kilometers.
The earthquake - which caused no material damage or loss of human life - had a magnitude of 2.9 degrees and was located 1.0 kilometers at the northeast end of Varadero beach, on the Hicacos peninsula.
Perceptibility reports were received from some clients at the Iberostar hotel, located in the tourist resort of Varadero, in the northeast corner of the Hicacos peninsula.
This is the second noticeable earthquake of the year in the largest of the Antilles.
