Havana, Cuba: The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today supported the call of the intellectual Graziella Pogolotti to identify, recognize and defend the heritage of the Caribbean nation.

The president showed his support for Pogolotti's claim with the publication on Twitter of a phrase inserted in the opinion article Habaneridad of the essayist, published by the newspaper Juventud Rebelde.

“Graziella Pogolotti summons us quite rightly: The Revolution has also founded heritage. We must identify it, recognize it and defend it”, the head of state wrote on the social network.

Through a remembrance of important passages of her life in the time close to the triumph of the Revolution, Graziella Pogolotti addresses the history of the ceramic mural of the sculptor Amelia Peláez, located in the Hotel Habana Libre, which is in a new restoration process.

In the article, the outstanding intellectual recognizes that the heritage values ​​are not reduced to those inherited from ancient times, but that the Revolution has also founded them, and called attention to the need to identify, recognize and defend them.

In that sense, she suggested studying the bibliography of important researchers on the Island, taking into account current studies on architecture and urban planning, and analyzing the subject of construction masters and the training of architects.

“President Díaz-Canel insists on the link with universities. To them we could add the research centers and all sources of knowledge useful for thinking as a whole, 'she said.

Graziella Pogolotti currently serves as president of the Advisory Council of the Minister of Culture, vice president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, and is a member of the Cuban Academy of Language.
