Havana: The 60th edition of the Official Gazette publishes the text of the new electoral legislation approved in July by the National Assembly of Popular Power, Prensa Latina reports.
After the publication of the law, the National Electoral Council will take office next week in solemn ceremony at the José Martí Memorial, located in the Revolution Square of this capital.
The new legal norm regulates the election or designation of the members of the electoral bodies, their constitution, powers and functioning.
Also, it describes the process of nomination and election of the delegates to the municipal assemblies of the Popular Power, the constitution of these and the election of its president and vice president.
The legislation addresses the nomination and election of deputies, the constitution of the National Assembly of People's Power, the election of its president, vice president, secretary and the other members of the State Council.
Its articles define the nomination and election of the president and vice president of the Republic, as well as the election of provincial governors and vice governors.
It also details the processes of organizing and conducting popular consultations, plebiscites and referendums; the organization and operation of the commissions of candidacies and the processing of claims established in electoral matters, the Electoral Registry and electoral ethics.
The 21 members of the National Electoral Council will function permanently with the mission of guaranteeing democratic electoral and participation processes that are convened in the country.
It is headed by Alina Balseiro (president), Tomás Amarán (vice president) and María Esther Bacallao (secretary), all with extensive experience in the field.
With the Electoral Law and the installation of the Council the conditions will be created to elect in October, in the Parliament, the fundamental positions of the State and later, before the end of the year, to designate the members of the Council of Ministers.
