Havana: The Cuban Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal highlighted the importance of the Maternal and Child Care Program, one of the priorities that this institution maintains today, Prensa Latina publishes.

Portal toured several provinces and in each of them stressed the importance of the work of doctors in the recruitment, monitoring and control of pregnant women, as well as the need for continuity in the work until the mother returns to her home with a healthy baby.

The urgency of reducing pregnancy in adolescence was analyzed in the meetings, as this has as consequences complications in pregnancy and childbirth, abortions and these, in turn, future infertility problems.

It was also known that this group provides a significant number of babies with low birth weight, which constitutes a risk factor for health.

Likewise, factors that influence the infant mortality rate were identified in which work should be done to achieve better results.

Among them, the need for prevention and timely diagnosis of congenital malformations, which leads to increase the use of folic acid and the comprehensive approach since the primary health care to modify this scenario.
