Havana: A thousand, 400 young teachers graduated from Cuban pedagogical schools will provide their services in special education in the 2019-2020 school year from next Monday, Prensa Latina publishes.

This education system shows a favorable situation in teacher coverage and prepares its students for the transition to regular education, said the Director General of Basic Education, Marlen Triana.

The official of the Ministry of Education added that highly specialized services are also offered and said it is a priority to achieve greater training of specialized teachers and general education so that students reach their full potential.

When the Cuban Revolution triumphed in 1959, there were only 130 students enrolled in eight special schools, while currently the figure exceeds 30,000 in more than 300 such centers, according to official data.

In the nation there are special schools in Havana, Santiago de Cuba (east) and Villa Clara (center), a fact that allows this service to be extended to children living in intricate places and in areas of difficult access, he said.

In these centers more than 33 thousand children, adolescents and young people are enrolled.

Special education in Cuba is aimed at those with intellectual, visual, auditory, physical-motor, communication and learning disorders, autism spectrum disorders or physical-motor disability.
